  1. Great stuff man! Do you think it’s important to incorporate aspects of power lifting or bodybuilding to increase absolute strength in a CrossFit athlete?

    • Brandon, thanks for taking the time to check out my blog and I appreciate the kind words! You might also be interested in checking out my newly launched web site dsp-athletics.com.

In response to your questions, as far as power lifting goes I say it is not only important it is vital. Not only are they the most powerful lifts to increase strength and explosiveness but they are also incorporated into a lot of CrossFit WODs and competitions (especially the squat and dead lift). In regards to body building I will admit that its a topic that I am not all that familiar with. I don’t really see the basic tenets of body building being beneficial to CrossFit training as they lack the functional aspect of the movements that are at the core of CrossFit methodology. However, if you have a specific muscle that is weak and needs to improve drastically to help you complete the strength and conditioning aspects of CrossFit then doing some isolation work on that muscle may not be a bad idea!

I hope this is helpful and if you have anymore questions feel free to send them my way.

All the best in training and in life!

      -JR
