Playing Well with Others

“I’m a success today because I had a friend who believed in me and I didn’t have the heart to let him down.” – Abraham Lincoln

One aspect of training that I find to be greatly beneficial is finding someone to train with. The more the merrier in fact. Go out and join a box, cycling team, Masters swim club, sports team, etc. If you cannot find one, start one! The enhancing effect of a team atmosphere is difficult to match and almost impossible to replicate in a solo environment. In all forms of training you tend to adapt and train up to the level of those around you. Surround yourself with experienced high quality athletes and reap the benefits of this synerginistic effect. This is a two way street. The same positive and uplifting aspects you’ve been experiencing yourself is returned back to the others, simply by you being there. Be a team player, show up, work hard, motivate your team mates! You’ll find that as others improve with you a connection is formed and like President Lincoln, you won’t want to let your friend down. Everyone gets stronger and faster. Isn’t that the point afterall?
